The PDRN reference · Updated Oct 8, 2026

PDRN skincare, without the sales pitch

A reference for reading PDRN labels and understanding the research behind them. Start with what the ingredient is, separate topical products from clinic treatments, and check what a product claim actually supports.

  • PDRN stands for polydeoxyribonucleotide.
  • Wound-healing research is not proof that a cosmetic serum works.
  • Topical products and injections should be assessed separately.
  • Brand-stated concentrations are not independent test results.

PDRN in one minute

PDRN means polydeoxyribonucleotide: dermatologist Melda Isaac, quoted by Cosmopolitan, describes it as DNA fragments derived from trout sperm cells or, more commonly in skincare, salmon sperm cells. Isaac says the extracted material is filtered and sterilized for facial use. Our what is PDRN guide explains the terminology; the ingredient's origin alone does not establish a finished product's effects.

Not all PDRN research uses fish-derived material. A study of Panax PDRN used tissue-cultured Korean ginseng roots as its source and examined effects in skin cells and an artificial skin model. Those experimental findings do not establish results in people using a retail serum, nor do they establish the source of PDRN in any particular product.

What the evidence covers so far

The studies cited here concern impaired wound healing and experimental skin biology, not proof of cosmetic serum performance. A review reports cell migration, cell growth, new blood vessel formation and reduced inflammation across laboratory, animal and clinical wound-healing studies. It also describes local and systemic use. Our research guide keeps these evidence categories separate rather than treating them as interchangeable.

Cell findings help explain possible mechanisms, but they do not show what happens when you apply a cream. A study using keratinocytes and fibroblasts found increased cell proliferation and migration, with different signaling effects in each cell type. The sources cited here do not establish published human evidence for the retail topical products listed here, or product-specific wrinkle or acne-scar outcomes.

Serums and creams vs injections

A PDRN serum is not equivalent to an injection. Cosmopolitan reports that PDRN injected in a dermatologist's office is more concentrated than PDRN in topical skincare. That distinction does not establish a conversion between the two or predict comparable results. Read the PDRN injections guide separately from information about products you apply at home.

Clinic claims need the same scrutiny as skincare marketing. ARTisan Skin & Laser Center says it incorporates PDRN into microneedling, skin boosters and post-laser protocols, and claims benefits for healing and recovery. Those statements describe the clinic's services and claims, not evidence that a store-bought cream reproduces them. Discuss injections, post-procedure care and individual risks with a board-certified dermatologist or licensed injector.

How to choose a PDRN product

Compare the exact product, size and listed price before interpreting the PDRN claim. Anua's official US store lists Anua PDRN Hyaluronic Acid Capsule 100 Serum at $30.00 for 30 ml, checked 2026-10-08. Those details make a listing easier to assess, but they are not evidence of effectiveness. The product directory is a starting point for comparing listings, not a ranking of results.

Treat concentration figures as attributed label information, not a performance score. Dr.Reju-All says Dr.Reju-All Advanced PDRN Copper Peptide Serum contains 1,200 ppm PDRN; VT Cosmetics says VT Cosmetics PDRN TONER contains 50,000ppm PDRN. Both figures are brand claims, not independently tested measurements. These figures alone do not establish which finished product works better, how much reaches the skin, or what results you can expect.
